Thinking of getting the Daiwa 23 Emblem 45 SCW QD reels but want to make sure they are OK at around £175 each, anyone use them and have any views...good or bad?

They are ok. Nothing special. The penn affinity are a far better reel for a slightly lower price

Totally agree found the Daiwa felt cheap and im a daiwa man

Or if you have a bit more go up to the 5000t instead? I felt the Emblems were quite showy as reels like more was spent there rather than good bits in them.

I haven't looked back since going over to tournies

another vote for the affinity

I was looking at various reels, and a few people on the forum including Jeff and IP in this thread suggested I looked at the Penn Affinity 3 LC's and I haven't looked back, they are the best reels I've used and I tried various ones out while looking.

I have the 19s and find there fine......cast out and reel in, play a fish......does exactly what a reel should do.....

I have 21's & they definitley improved with a set of carbon washers in the spools.

They aren't as rugged as some reels I've owned so be careful when you're getting used to them - I found the line guard would pop out early on (no idea why) & would create issues with the oscillation / locking up.

I love them now though.- big reels that do a great job.
