Hi Chaps, I've just been informed by the bailiff of the lake in France that we are at next week, that our swim is underwater due to excessive rain recently. Although there is a ski-style lodge in our swim, we always bivvy up for the fishing, and just use the lodge for chilling and cooking. How does flooding affect the fishing?

I went to croix blanche and it was about 8ft up, most of the fish were behind the far margin trees and sunbathing on the footpath...
If I boated up to the far margin trees I was about 10-20ft away from where the normal spots are!

As Gerry has said, it may be lake dependent.
A friends lake has fished reasonably well for the last couple months and is / was roughly 18 inches up or more.
A lake just down the road at the same time I was catching (end of March start of April) was struggling for anything, by the Wed or Thu I think they had had 1 fish (lake also way up on normal winter levels) and this was with anglers that had fished there a few times.
Other lakes in the area (Champagne, near Vitry) have been random with the catches, up / down etc.

May still be worth an ask, I suspect it gets a little deeper each year and may have some previous form, although this year does seem to be worse than most recent years

We were in France last week and the lake we were on was flooded too. The lake was a good 2-3ft deeper than normal with all but one swim completely flooded. One of the side effects of that was the water temp was well below its seasonal norm - I assume a) because the avg temp around Soupir (where we were) has been well below norms, and b) because of the additional volume of water in the lakes.
I had my waders which aren't ideal to spend too much time in as you sweat like mad and then get cold in the freezing wind. I also forgot my wellies and so had to just brave it with crocs and bare feet - think my feet were permanently numb the whole week.
The fishing was tough - more like winter fishing.
Still had a great time though.

Im surprised you got a pair of crocs through the french customs. Theyve chopped off peoples heads for less than that.
