Looking at switching to daiwa j braid for spodding. I will still want to use a shock leader.... What's the best diameter /breaking strain?

Just bought some in 29lb 0.20 dia. It's a lot thinner than my Chinese braid. I'm going to use a shock leader with it.

Yep J braid is pretty thin for the BS up to 40lb its only 0.24 diameter which is more in line with the diameters of the dedicated 20lb versions spod braids, dedicated spod braids in 25/30lb are generally 0.28/0.30 diameter which is around the diameter of the of the J braid in 58lb.
I have the Trakker stuff on at the moment in 30lb/0.29 which for most of my fishing is lobs with medium sized spombs out to anything under 90/100 yards any further, large spomb or having to punch it to the clip I'll couple it with a 50lb braided leader.

If you are using a shock leader you could use 10lb bs mono. I use 20lb braid with a 50lb shock leader. You could use the 58lb j braid straight through. I haven't used braid below 20lb bs, so dont know how it behaves with regard to wind knots. Unless you are going for ultimate distance. Dont go below 20lb bs.

I'm using the 0.22mm 37.5lb braid x8 for spodding along with 50lb armakord leader.

A lot of braid sold in the uk breaking strain is I believe measured differently to other country's. J braid is no different. I tend to go on the USA figures for b/s which is still much thinner than mono. I would worry about constantly hitting the clip with 0.2 braid.
