After 4 long years of not being able to get out I was really looking forward to getting out again. During those 4 years I've also had increasing issues with my joints, namely my left ankle spraining for no good reason. While it does I've coped shifting the weight to my RHS however with a torn achilies, a arthritic knee, not to mention a bursitis in the hip its only been a matter of time before the right side started, which it has. In the last 17 months I've spent 9 off my feet, not so bad when you're shielding, but now I'm not, I need to work round it....and codeine only goes so far....lol

So it got me wondering. I know I'm not the only one to have mobility issues so if you have too, what changes have you made to help?

So, bending is a issue, I mitigated it wearing stiff walking boots so my ankle can't flex, wear supports etc. I've had my landing net raised on a storm stick and rod rest for a while. I'm thinking of raising things, so things like the Ridge Monkey Action Station type, maybe a bucket tripod modified with something like a Preston Ventilite tray, maybe a hooded 1 for when it rains. Naturally a taller bivvy and I'm looking into converting my barrow at least to 3 wheels.

Any ideas you might be using or that you might have seen?

one thing I urge you to do is stop taking codeine straight away !!! too many side effects

you need to get Paracetamol 500mg Capsules on prescription
I have a condition with permanent pain and was sent to the pain clinic
it was explained to me Paracetamol HAS NO side effects and I have been prescribed them for every 6 hours no matter if you dont think you have pain as the effectiveness builds up over time and really does have a good effect
and unlike codeine you CANT get addicted to it

Good call OG, get off that Codeine, you will probably have a better appetite for it, that comes back I found, and you will probably be more 'regular' as well.

Codine - For me It Seemed to just put everything on a 'go slow'

Certainly worth trying Glucosamine Hydrochloride and Chondroitin, it's worked wonders for my Dad..He has.gone from struggling to walk from one end to the other on the bowles green to playing all day. It needs to be the HCl.version, not the cheaper sulphate for the supermarket.
Healthspan website is a decent source.

The korum accessory chair is worth a look, can be set with seat high and straight, also plenty of tray options to avoid bending down.

For the last few years I have used Nash Gazebo as a bivvy when on french trips, with some adjustable height tables. Being able to stand and do things at "normal" height makes life so.much easier, but obviously needs biggish swims.

Thanks for the advice guys much appreciated, but rest assured I'm good with the Codeine, I'll explain. I only take it when I absolutely need to and by God I needed it. My knee joint went but this time it was the worst its been since I was 21, equal in pain to either arthroscopy I've had post op.
2x 10/500 (Codeine/Paracetemol) didn't even touch it (I have those for when it and my ankle flare up as 500 Paracetemol alone isn't enough). I couldn't sleep or walk from Wed to Saturday and I only started walking to the loo, about 12' yesterday, I'm still relatively bed bound, hence spamming the forum...lol. On Friday my Mrs wheeled me to my GP I told him I need 500 Naproxen and 30/500 Codeine, he agreed and prescribed them but my pharmacy didn't dispense them on Friday and they're shut on Sat
So, after a lot of messing about (it'd take a whole page) inc 111 wanting to call a ambulance and have me taking a ambulance bed up for 8 hours (wait time)...I finally managed to advise the A&E Dr what I needed and the Mrs picked it up on Saturday. Those strength drugs have worked but its still moderately painful, I'm fine with that. Yesterday afternoon I stopped taking the Codeine but I'll take the Naproxen (not the nicest drug) for a few more days as today it hurts a bit more, its still very swollen and it had me awake every hour of so last night.

If you think I'm a tad familiar with my Dr/drugs etc its because I was a pharmacy technician for 15 years and I've been dealing with this knee for 29 years. I was told when I was 21 that I'd need a knee replacement within 10 years, I'm 50 this month, it's done well. I've got MRI scans booked, maybe its replacement time. Tbh I'd be kind of glad.

Thanks for taking the time to reply mate much appreciated I take G&C, have done for a very long time. I assume it works given my knee history, I know its worked wonders for one of my dogs and others I know.

I've been looking at the accessory chair and the Preston Absolute amongst others. At 1st from a pov of head height but the more I think about it the more I like the add on trays etc. I already have standard trays on my Inception seat box but they're the older plastic type, quite like the look of the ventalite trays.

Bivvies, totally get the gazebo its a thought. I tend to book Lake exclusives in France so I've not been restricted to fishing bivvies only. When my hip plays up I also have lower back issues and in the past I've taken green camping tents so I can stand up. We used to do a lot of camping so we've got a lot of the stuff I could fill a gazebo type cook tent with, tables etc.
Its the excessive bending thats doing it for me, sitting on a bedchair and reaching gear under your bed, virtually bent in 2 at 6'1. Loading a bait boat on the floor, need a stand me thinks.
I use a gardening foam pad to kneel on to unhook fish, in the past I've knelt on the raised side of my beanie mat but I had to replace it with the Thinking Anglers one that doesn't have it.

If anyone needs to get off codeine, send it to me and I can responsibly dispose of it 👍

Achilles's rupture victim here, plus several knee and ankle surgeries. Started to really take building my left leg and calf back up post rupture and really do stretching, flexibility and yoga stuff each day. So really hoping I can turn back the clock a bit on some of these injuries. Former professional athlete, but playing that level takes a toll ... Knee and ankle are relatively fine, when my Achilles snapped at 40 that's a different beast. So still getting movement back from it two years later

You know sundance, I said to the Mrs I hope the scan says replace, had enough of it now. The father in laws had both his done, absolutely refused at 1st, was in absolute agony, now says it was the best thing he's ever had done, wished he'd never waited/suffered.

@tomsher01, glad to hear its working for you, great news. I can relate in a way, my fitness levels when young were said by the Dr to be the probable reason for my knee going 1st time. From early to late teens I did a lot of cycling, legs were quite something, then work came along and cycling dropped by the wayside. Dr said the joint probably wasn't being held together as it used to be as the muscles shrank, problem is, as you know, once damaged your limited in the exercises to aid it (I hate swimming...lol,). Still, no excuses!

Probably because 1m 77 years old I know lots of old farts

so I actually know 5 people and 2 of them have had both knees done
so thats 7 knee replacements on friends and one family member

and ALL OF THEM say its the best thing they have had done but depends where you live if there is a long waiting list or not
Are you sure?
