After 25 years of dreaming of digging a lake, we have finally completed the initial phase of a 2.7acre lake in Dorset.
It's been quite the process, with lots of problems, but it's finally taking shape and seeing the vision come to life has been ultra rewarding.
We stocked it with a mixture of VS/SIMMO/FRONTFISHERIES fish.. (only 25 fish total), trying to keep low stock and mega weedy.
The fish all went in as C3's (5-7lb) and look like they are pushing high doubles and low twenties after 18 months.
The last summer was extremely frustrating with 90% of my marginals (5000 planted) and a good chunk of my trees dying in the drought, but this summer things are finally starting to take hold.
I will carry on planting for the next couple of summers and try not to wish time away.. would be nice if i could fast forward the clock and make it look mature now.. but its getting there.
Eventually we will have open days on there for kids/ charitys.. but for the most part the fish will be left alone to grow big.. maybe get something special in there one day.. who knows.
We filmed it all and have created a Youtube series if anyones intrested in lake digging process.

Yes there is.. (lots) we are not far from the river stour, witn two neighbouring garden ponds being emptied last year.. going to discuss in detail later on in the series..probably ruffle some feathers. Once we put it up, i will be happy to go into detail on here about it.
