What's peoples opinion of Sonik reels? I'm after a pair of mini pit reels for 10ft rods and as it's my small water set I wondered if the Sonik reels would be ok. I normally buy Shimano but funds are tight at the moment, TIA

Look at the okuma inception inc 6000 reels perfect size for 10ft rods around £60 a reel may get them cheaper

Wychwood extricators are the perfect reel for short rods if you want budget. Future angling do quick drag versions.

Agreed. A far better reel than the Sonik and not much more expensive

I bought myself 3 Sonik Tournos 6000's "Baby Pits" in January 2017 for a punt as the price was very cheap to replace my aging Shimano baitrunners, 3 sets of them that I had been using since the late 80's, plus I got sick of winding in on very cold Winters day when fishing at range so wanted something faster so my fingers would not be dropping off with the cold, Straight away I was surprised how good they was and probably the best reels that I have used since my Mitchel 300's in the 60's. The drag is about half a turn from off to spool clamped down tight and is very smooth. The action of the reel itself is very smooth, just a tap of the handle and they will freely spin and take up slack on its own. The reels themselves having a carbon body are very light.
Straight away I bought another 2 to use on my spod and marker rods and if anything happened whilst fishing and one broke on my main carp rods, then they would be spares that I could use.
In 2018 and still very impressed with them, I bought a set of 3 x Tournos 8000's for piking and distance fishing.
So far they are still as smooth as the day that I bought them apart from one bent bail arm but that was my doing dragging the holdhall out of the car but it bent back into shape.
About the only thing that I do not know though is the longevity of them, will they last as long as my "300's" that are are still good after 55 years or even last as long as the Shimano's, time will tell, but I will never know in reality as I will be well dead, but if they see me out, about another 15 years, then they have done well.
The only thing that I have noticed though is the Tournos sold today look different to what I bought so quality may not be the same.
In addition, a couple of years ago, I did buy a Sonik Spod reel for lure fishing in the sea and I am not that impressed with it as it does not seem to cast far, but, it could be and probably is the cheap braid that it came with and never got round to replacing it as I rarely use it.
