Bit of a weird one, do you good people think the original shimano long cast would be up to being a spod reel. My old man has one sitting in the cupboard which has hardly been used and I could do with a spod reel.

Yeah, far too heavy imo, they will of course do a job, but trying to push that forward would wreck my old wrists

They are not that heavy -I used one for this purpose for ages. They have the guts to work a heavy spod and crank it easy.

They're a great catfish reel and good ones are in demand. As said you'll get over £100 for it and can get the Daiwa Emblem spod reel for less than that.
Fantastic reels for using abroad or as said catfish too good to use as a spod reel.. in my opinion

I used to use one as a marker on a big weedy water, but the weight made it hard work after a while.
The same would apply to spodding.
I used to fish with 3 or 4 for years, they are not so heavy when sat on the alarms.

They will work well although as mentioned they are heavy, I still have mine as my main reels and I bought them well over 20 years ago the day they came into the shops, still work as good as the day I bought them, solid reels that will last forever.

They are absolutely bomb proof reels, I have a set for catting. Far too heavy for a spod reel imo
