Anyone been to val dore lakes, just wondering if its worth considering. Only 90 mins from Calais which is handy as driving from northumberland so a long drive just to get to the tunnel before heading into France. Cheers.
Never fished it but whenever I have seen this place mentioned on the forum I've never seen many positive responses, but a chap and his boy on our committee went recently in the last few weeks I see him last week and I'm sure he said they had a good few out of lake 2 had to work at it but got rewarded, I didn't really think to ask him what he thought of the place TBH.

Avoid it like the plague if I were you.
If you're driving all that way you'll be disappointed when you get there.

I've not been for a VERY long time but I enjoyed it for what I went for....runs. The speci lake never appealed and even back then it wasn't very easy (most places were by comparison to nowadays).
If it's not changed you have to be a bit open minded, not all lakes abroad are run how we are used to over hear. For example, at that time (probably still is) VD was a popular day ticket lake with the locals and anglers in transit. They will turn up for the day and to have a good time, like day tickets here, so if you can cope with that you'll be o.k. Personally I enjoyed chatting to them about other local lakes, interesting what you can pick up!
A tale......, when we were there the typical anglers were fishing to the opposite banks/ middle of the lakes as per usual. A quick chat with a regular and he told us the venue had a issue with the road after flooding so the owner dug out gravel to top it up. That resulted in a trench right along the bank we were fishing on and most of the fish were caught less than 6' out
..it's good to talk!
