Afternoon all,
I've got a set of 12ft Rods I want to ship(UK)however due to the butt ring size I've discovered I can't get them in 1 tube so need to use 2 x cardboard carpet tubes taped together to ship all 3 rods safely and not risk damaging the eyes.
Weight is just under 6.0kg
Length is 1.98m
Value is £650.00
They don't need a quick delivery, a week is fine.
Parcel force at the local post office 48 quoted me £62.00 which sounded steep!!
Any help here much appreciated.

Try the Parcelforce website - I've just pretended I was sending a 2m long parcel weighing 6kg (45cm wide / 35cm high - basically guessing how big a couple of tubes might be when taped together) and it's quoted £32.

Used interparcel a few times with no issues. You just choose which courier you want to use as they will give you a list of options. I always use parcel force now though as its a fixed price of £32 but they must of charged you twice as two tubes. Think you might struggle sending two two tubes taped together and saying its one parcel as its clearly two parcels. Best off finding a tube they will all fit in.

I'd then be covering the tubes in bin bags - I can't see how it'd be rejected if the weight and dimensions are correctly stated when booking.
If a bigger tube is needed, try the local carpet shop.

Your dimensions are about right, that's what I thought having sent a landing net recently, insurance cover £650 and it doubles price.

If you cant see it two separate parcels then you should be ok. I wouldnt bother with insurance, they will never pay out if anything happened anyway so save your money.

It's a risk sending without insurance. I bought some rods several years ago and the courier ran over the tube in the warehouse. It was completely flat with a tyre print right over it. Needless to say the rods were ruined inside. Insurance paid out but it took a while!

I'd considered that option, however if my luck posting rods runs as well as my luck with winning lottery tickets I'd be Fooked 😂😂😂😂

If you're explicit that the items you are posting are fishing rods then they should pay out. The issue is that a lot of them put a list of items in the small print that they won't cover and rods are on the list.

Well,
Having trawled through many of them it's the insurance that adds the 50% I just don't remember it having been that price in the dim and distant past, maybe it's my age, memory not what it used to be and rose colour spectacles

Sadly posting rods is expensive as you have found out and once you add extra expensive insurance on top even going through the parcel force website will still be just as expensive with added extra insurance , you could try the paisley freight website . I looked to post some expensive century c2 10ft rods a couple of years ago I was getting prices of £70 with the extra insurance up to £800
