Looking at getting 2 rods purely for deadbaiting. Used my carp rods previously but at 12ft and 2.75lb I don't think they're quite suited. Ideally looking at 10ft and 3lb or so but any advice and recommendations would be welcome

Are you casting or fishing from a boat? Not sure why a 10ft 3lb rod would be more suitable than a 12ft 2.75? I'd rather the latter
casting from the bank. just imagined the stiffer rod would be better suited to the weight of the bait, float etc

I've only ever used 12ft rods for casting dead baits. I would rather the extra length to lob the bait and float, I suppose it's personal preference and depends on how you like to cast.

Under arm or side casts. Like I said not gonna be very long casts at all and figured the compact length would be better suited to canals and park lakes. Open to any advice, suggestions and recommendations though

I use Harrison baby ballista 11ft 3lb or 3.5 lb casting up to 60 yds
Harrison ballista 12ft 2.75 up to 80 yds and on the big scottish lochs 13ft 4lb ballista for heavy baits and long range all have served me well over the past 10 years.

It would depend on what the distance you intend to fish will be, and the largest size of deadbait you are thinking of using. If any sort of range it'd be a 12' for me (or bigger) and not less than 3lb in Ballista. I prefer to be 'over' rather than 'under' gunned for Pike and I've used my 12'6" 3.5lb Ballista for just this in the past, you don't want to be playing Pike for extended times, worth bearing in mind.

Yeah i am both a mate of Daves and a member of pikers pit.He still says after all these years the 12ft 2.75 (p1) is the best all round pike rod.
