been looking at these for a while, people saying these are the closest to the old 4500B's which I used to have and stupidly sold.
anyone using OC's if so opinions on performance and in particular what size model for 12 foot rods standard fishing

I have been using the 8000 OC''s for quite a few years now for various qpplications.
They are currently on my 9ft Xtractors, which have been used more for big Mississippi Blue Catfish , than for Carp.
They have been solid reels, performing faultlessly
The 8000 size have spools very similar in size to the old 3500 B's, although I would be tempted to get the slightly larger 12000's for 12 ft rods.
I would have bought those, if that size had been available here in the U.S
.
Incidentally, I had four 4500B's before them and by comparison, the OC's are much better reels.
The B's have far inferior line lay and two of them suffered gearing failures, while the OC's have never skipped a beat .
Buy with confidence.

I've only got a small one for my barbel rod but it's the nicest shimano I've owned. I prefer it to the cult classic 5000XTEA, which would have cost me more 15 years ago. I sold the XTEA on getting the OC.
It feels really solid, no frills, good clutch.
Only thing its missing is a decent line clip. I don't use one for the barbel fishing but it looks harsh.
