I'm looking for an inline lead (old school type one, not the ones that can drop off) and QC swivels that go well together and allow the lead to release the swivel easily when the fish shakes its head without me having to squash the swivel down with pliers.

No sorry no recommendations but I watch this thread with interest as I also find the need to squash the eye of a swivel with a pair of pliers.

Always liked the flat square shaped Avid inline leads - can be fishing 'standard' or drop off (with stems) as required

Been using Korda in-line leads for donkeys years,got a few of Avids leads recently and like the 'terrapin' shape.Both as good as each other...None of this swivel squashing tho, I use a small pozi screwdriver,heated with a lighter to enlarge the hole size so a size 8 slides In and out easily!

You probably wouldn't go far wrong with something like this.
These are cheap as chips NGT in lines. I made the inner core from 45lb ESP lead core with the lead removed and spliced loops at either end (blobbed for comfort) then added a size 8 QCS plus a tail rubber.

If the mainline parts does the swivel release from the lead ok, and does the loop not impede the release of the whole lot through the tail rubber.

Finding the right screwdriver must be trial and error.
When you say you make it so the swivel releases easily, how easily?
I don't want it too easy, I want it to release when there's a breakage and the carp shakes it head.
Perhaps I'll carry on slightly squeezing the loop on the swivel that's buried in the insert, that itself is trial and error but I can get it just how I want it.

I was never a fan of squeezing the swivel eye so would just opt for a pair of closed scissors to widen the plastic insert. Alternatively replacing them with the soft shockleader inserts (the likes by Korda) can see the lead become free more easily, especially you really moisten them before.

I have never had any problem with the loop coming back through that tail rubber and it practically falls out with the slightest tug on that swivel.

No biggie Tinhead, just tried a few until I found a suitable one.As for how easily it releases?A fair percentage of fish caught sees the lead released from the swivel when in the net.
