Looking to get a new spodding)spombing rod and thinking about one of the Fox rods.
Can anyone tell me if there's much significant difference between the original Spomb LR and the newer Spomb X, or is it just cosmetic differences, guides etc. ?
Also open to any alternative suggestions up to around the 200 Sovs mark .
I can't compare rods in the flesh, as it were, as I live in the U.S. and the nearest retailer is two States and a lot of miles away.
Also, does anyone know if the Aerlex Spod reel still has the quirk that requires back winding to set the bail arm to cast without closing on the cast ?

13' Freespirit Slite SPM is a beast of a rod; heavyish but easy to launch both marker and spombs . . .don't know about Aerlex but the Daiwa Spod (based on the original Emblem X/Z5000A) has an 'auto-cast' button underneath the rotor that rotates the spool (when the bail arm is closed) so that the bail arm will always be at the perfect casting position prior to opening / casting

Yeah, thanks for the response. I do already have an Emblem Spod on my 13ft Free Spirit Spomb rod and have found it a bugger for closing on the cast, causing many crack offs.
That said, I only recently saw about the wind forward for " cast lock " feature, so probably need to revisit that reel, duh .......

Should never be cracking off with Daiwa Spod reel - autocast actually helpful and you rarely if ever get line under the spool with the oldskool line guard system
A few on here rate the 13' Shimano Tribal TX Intensity but its out of your price bracket . . .

Yeah , definitely user error on my part with the Emblem.
I might get another one for the new 12 ft spombing set up.
I was using the 12ft FSpirit CTX SPM, which was ok until I lost the tip section.
Thinking I might want something a bit lighter and more up to date.
That said, the Fox ones are on the radar, just wondering if the Spomb X is really worth the extra wedge.
The standard one can be had for around 158 quid from , J.Ross. About 70 quid less than the X version.

it was 8 months old, and if the guarantee isn't valid, maybe Johnson Ross should warn us when we buy free spirit rod's? I'm not sure what to do now, is it worth speaking to trading standards?

Free spirits after sales is the worst in the industry, absolutely shocking for a rod that can cost nearly £600 each. One reason i only buy century now.

They simply won't talk.to me or explain why they won't replace my broken tip section. 🙁🙁
Johnson Ross, gave been brilliant Re: my broken top section, on my free spirit hi s spod rod..
I explained what happened again and they decided
to speak to free spirit a second time and they are replacing the top section free of charge..
it was impossible to speak to free spirit directly but I'm happy now..🙂

May be worth looking on Kent tackle, I got a spomb lr rod for 99 quid as it's got a manufacturing error as they are labled up wrong on the blank, mine says Mr on the blank but all labels etc say lr model, if that doesn't bother you it's saving you some money. Mistreated spomb rod on their site
