Hi guys - I am fishing a large lake where most swims are boat access only. I have a BIC252 but have not used it much for moving gear until now. Any tips for scaling down the gear? I'm thinking of changing to lifepo4 battery 75mah, I'll leave the SLR at home and make do with iphone, end tackle reduced to one pouch and just enough lead etc. anything else that can make a big difference? I'm thinking of using a tarp rather than bivvy. Maybe getting smaller bed? Any tips?

You can get plenty in a 252 if you pack it properly, I wouldn't worry too much about being bare bones. I get everything in a TA rucksack and one dry bag for heavy leads, echo, water proofs, cover up tarp etc. Use a brolly rather than one of these enormous coffin bivvies if you have one. Try and keep bait and hookbaits to one bucket. You can use this as a seat in the boat when poodling around. I don't bother with a chair for the bank tbh.
LifePo4 battery is a no brainier if you have the funds. I've also ditched the SLR in favour of an iPhone, most of my captures are night shots and the iPhone just deals with the light better without needing all the flashes and floodlights.
If your 252 doesn't have stainless eyes on the front two corners then install some. You can have the bed right on the front overhanging the boat by a few inches, bungee it in place using the eyes. Saves lots of space and keeps it dry.

thank you for the reply. Great tip about the bed over the front, I never installed the eyes but may still have them in the garage. Will have a play tonight.
might leave the dog at home too for my trial run this weekend

I don't have a dog, but one bit of advice I would pass on is get the dog a life jacket. Even dogs with no previous affinity to water seem to fancy a jump in the middle of the lake at some point. At least if it's floating in a jacket you don't have to panic and go in after it!
