Fishing at my local Embalse it was unusally quiet on the Carp front and there seemed to be a hatch of some kind of Midge ? going on so i decided to pack up and have a wander
So i climbed the rock face near me so i could get a better view from above the Embalse
there were groups of Carp on the surface really slurping at the surface so im guessing feeding on spent Midges ?
The amazing thing was there was a Great Crested Grebe diving and catching small carp from underneath them ! never seen this before as the carp and the Grebe werent bothered by each other

Many people ignore tale tale signs of a hatch, the key one being swifts flying close to the waters edge and taking insects. Wind direction is also a factor, as the dead flies will often be blown into one corner, taking a large amount of fish with them.
In the past, i've caught carp inches from the bank in complete darkness as this was when the carp had the confidence to feed inches from the bank. I've caught them whilst placing floating crust onto the surface by hand, laying on my front and just waiting for them to take the bait, which was laying within thousands of (what I believe) to be mayflies.

I watched the carp in one of the lakes I used to fish chasing small fry,they were less than a foot from the bank.I had never seen carp do that before,I have seen them do it with tadpoles a few times

Yes im guessing these midges ? hatched in there millions and some Carp then become focused on the easy food source and homed in on the wind lanes on the Embalse and the Grebe wasnt slow either to capitalise on an easy food source of the small carp

Thanks will try that then ...not sure if this is the right way to do it ? ...only had a couple of clips left after formatting the card
