Wondering how a tourney 5000t compare to the old style iso qd . I've been a tourney user for as long as I can remember but have been offered a set of old style iso qd's at a reasonable cost . Just wondering what these are like in comparison, thanks.

Pros - Smoother, better anti reverse, less wobble and with QD already integrated. . .
Cons - No effective line guard and no folding handle
Even - Classic good looks but just as scratch/chippable / similar size / similar weight / similar line lay . . .both have wooden 'Tourney' knobs
Still making Tournies so that says something - although resale on decent used ISOS higher based on rareness / availability - only shifted mine as needed the cash at the time; would always consider another set if the price was right!

If you let the line go slack it can go behind the spool,I only had it happen once and that was my fault as I didn't hit the clip on the cast

I sold one of my 4 for £360
I also have a set of tourney 6ks between the ISOs and them I'd keep the Tourneys for that extra distance. The ISOs are sublime on my 2.5lb Torrix and a delight to use.
If I were in your shoes I'd get Tourneys and if at a later date you can find a decent set of ISOs and (do get them serviced).
It made a massive difference to mine as I was going to move them on as I found my tourneys (serviced when brand new) regardless of their own character just felt better for to me.
Line guards
Most Shimarno reels have the two prong spool skirt line guard and have done since the nineties. The ISO has this type of guard and having owned a set of 8000 special back in the day I'm well versed with managing the line.
However from my experience from back then and all the way through my 25 years of using such kit the Rubber and sprung bars found on the Emblems is superb as is the guard on the Tourney (all be it somewhat noisy).

Going rate for 3 is £800-£1000 I'd say.
I got serviced recently and they are superb and lovely and smooth.

I've been using a set of original ISO for years and I also have a set of 5000t.
The ISO are by far the superior reel imo. I've had a few reels over the years and none come close.
I use them from margins to long distance and can never recall having had a problem with casting or line going behind the spool.
Didn't like the QD at first but wouldn't be without it now.
I only use the 5000t on a city centre water with concrete banks.
