Off to France in August and will be fishing a hydro-electric reservoir, so huge and deep. Going to use PVA bags and given the depth and presumably warm water will need something that is slow melting to ensure it gets down to the bottom. Do I need solid or perforated bags? Will be dropping from a boat if that makes a difference?
Also any recommendations on a supplier would be much appreciated, or do i just get some big brand ones?

There is a thread running in rig section,there is a link to some cheap pva bags.I would double bag them to make sure they reach the bottom

For the same reason as you, fishing deep water, i've been playing around with various soaks for bags and mesh. A bag/mesh soaked for a couple of minutes in a glycerine type liquid takes well over a minute to start to dissolve. I also found that those nash syrups are very handy for that, based on some sugary maize syrup. I prefer perforated for that btw, since the liquid can then work its magic on both sides.

The bags that are in that link last 13 seconds until they start to dissolve and they can travel a big distance in that time, probably hitting the lake bed before you think, however if you have any doubts just cover any PVA bag in a spray light oil and that will delay the breakdown rate even more. I bought a coconut spay light oil for that purpose a few years ago, tested the bags in the margin and the oil adds about 5 more seconds before the bags start to dissolve.

I'd heard this as well I've got some spray oil in my bag for cooking and this is handy as every so often I'll fish a town lake that's got depths upto 50' but most of margins are 10' and above.
