Carrying on from the Spraying Reels thread which focused of F&F customs, has anyone ever had their reels carbon dipped? I think there was a mention on here a while back of someone getting it done but it was not on a thread of its own, so a search doesn't reveal it.
My Basia QDX black body paint is very fragile so was pondering this process. Is it a robust covering or just as fragile? Do they look OK or a bit OTT. To put it into perspective I find some of the later Basia's a bit blingy and some of the more extreme F&F custom jobs a bit in your face, so want a very subtle look, maybe getting F&F to later add a couple of very,very minor unobtrusive bits.
I've found a company which does dipping on reels, quite close to my syndi, but haven't contacted them yet as I want to do a bit of independent research before speaking to them.

Your best bet would be to have them do one cheap reel even you buy it from a car boot sale and give it some abuse for a while and see how it fares.

I could end up with the best looking, most expensive Intrepid Black Prince reel known to man, but sounds sensible
Early research shows that the dipped effect can be as good for as long as 15 years in optimal conditions if not too abused and the final finish of lacquer is what makes it hard wearing. It certainly seems more robust than the weak Daiwa paint job which unfortunately for a black reel has a white undercoat. This company does road wheels amongst other items so should be tough. I need more research as the carbon pattern needs to be quite small as the actual body area of a Basia 45 is quite small once the spool and arse end assembly is removed. Looking at the rotor, main body and stem plus body face plate done which is quite small.
