Firstly, I'm not positive I'm posting this thread in the correct Forum, so I apologise in advance if it ends up needing moving elsewhere.
So, my eldest lad (13) absolutely loves fishing. He's been into it for about 5 years or so now. The thing is, he's completely got into it of his own accord, purely through YouTube etc. I do not know anything about fishing myself at all. He's been to a fishery (Drummersdale in Burscough) once with a friend of the family and myself, and he's always trying his luck around South Liverpool parks like Calderstones.
The thing is, he doesn't know anyone his own age who is interested in fishing, and he's got no-one to teach him how to improve. So, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for fishing clubs, or groups, or whatever in the Merseyside area that a 13-year-old could get involved with. I'm happy taking him places but, as I said, I don't know anything about fishing at all, and I also think it would be great for him to be with kids around his own age with the same enthusiasm.

welcome to the forum, I would pop into your local tackle shop..Google is your friend for that and speak to them. I'm not too far away near Chester but wouldn't know the nearest shops for you.
speak to the shop,they're a gold mine of information, they will recommend a club/clubs for your son. not so much this time of year as the weathers brutal but alot do coaching sessions in spring/summer and they will help him and you out.
iou could try taking him to a local commercial fishery (partridge lakes isn't too far away) as they have a shop and plenty of staff on hand around the complex to assist you. with it being a commercial fishery theyre alot easier to catch in in winter due to the stocking. they'll advise on the best lake,best tactic and put you and your son on some fish I would imagine
commercials can be expensive long term, ideally the local club via the tackle shop will be able to assist as the weather warms up and more people venture onto he bank.
I was in a similar situation many years ago, none of my family fish and I used to spend hours in all weathers learning from older kids and men on the local club water.
it's great he's getting into fishing,there's alot worse things he could have an interest in that's for sure

Definitely get yourself onto a commercial fishery, I've just looked at my local one (Baden Hall in Staffs) and it's only £7 for 12 hours for a junior and it should be a fish every few minutes. I'd get yourself a little pole or whip starter kit and away you go. There's some decent guys on this forum who will always help, so just ask. Likewise, when you're fishing on the venue, ask fellow anglers and I'm sure they'd help in anyway they can.
Happy times starting fishing, I remember my first time with my dad when I was 7, and I started my eldest son when he was the same age, and he's a full blown addicted carp angler now age 22. Good luck and enjoy.

Long term, perhaps next year or the year after, get him into a club as a junior. I think it will become increasingly more difficult to get into clubs with the cost of living crisis, they are the most cost effective way of fishing. I'm in Prince Albert after 2 years on the waiting list. Juniors are only about £15 a year and no waiting list. They have loads of waters in the NW so would be ideal for you.
