I'm looking at reels for a floater rod setup with a 12ft 2.25lb rod.
I can pick up the BR version of these 4000 size reels cheaper at the moment so was wondering how it compares to the GS 4000, many on the forum have recommended in the past?
According to the specs the BR is actually lighter with less line capacity.

I own gs4000 and gs br5000 and even the gs br5000 is quite smaller than the GS4000. So I would definitely choose the GS4000, The GS Br 4000 is way too small for a 2.25lb rod in my opinion.

I use the GS 5000 BR on my 9ft rods, and even then I find them quite small

Go pimped SS2600 - brilliant fun for floater fishing and should balance well with your 12' 2.25

Lol - no offence taken

The GS BR reels are tiny - the GS are a similar size to the SS2600 and arguably a smoother reel. If you want a baitrunner consider the BR25A - I use them on my barbel rods and they're compact and light enough with the benefit of a wider spool - I use them for rivers because the cranking power is better than my SS2600s

FB market place is your friend - plenty selling these reels for decent prices

Alternatively (and I'm sure someone will mention them) the Okuma INC 6000s are well recommended in terms of bang for buck

I went to the inc 6000 after destroying two Gs4000 both locked up after 6 months of solid weed fishing
