Hi all,

For my 30th Birthday this March I am heading to Cardiff from Belfast to fish the Cefyn Mably Complex.

I have heard mixed reports but the lodges beside the lakes totally fitted the bill to allow me to bring the Mrs (plus she is paying!!)

I am staying on the Spring Lake and I'm just wondering as anyone else on here fished it?

I am one of these carp fishermen who has forgotten how to cast following buying a bait boat and they are banned on the water, so I better remember how to cast and quickly ha ha...

Any little pointers would go down a treat, as far as I'm aware its in-between a specimen water and a runs water. Over here in Northern Ireland I'm used to fishing Specimen waters and fishing for every bite, so going away and nailing a few fish each day would be nice.

I haven't fished Spring pond in quite a few years (I live locally and the building of the pods has actually put me off the venue so unlikely to ever fish it again - as is the case with many other locals). Anyway, no long casting needed, just a bit of accurately as fishing to the tree line is a good bet. No real features in the lake as such so margins and then picking a spot and fishing tight to it is the order of the day. Given its going to be Spring when you are fishing bags to showing fish will also work. Enjoy

I imagine that if any lake I fished stuck a lodge on it, I wouldn't be best pleased either!

I will do as you say and fish the tree line, I'd always have a rod their anyway ( maybe in the tree line this time seeing as I have to cast )

I just hope to have relaxing week so a fish or two is a bonus!

Same as MiniWelsh - it's fairly close to me and I used to fish it years ago with my father when Spring and Lodge were trout lakes. It doesn't really appeal to me these days as tends to be busy on the lodge I occasionally do a session on Horseshoe for a run or two but have never fished Spring Pond.
It is a lovely little lake though and my cousin has done well on there - plenty of carp and some cats in there. I'm sure the guys in the shop will give you some tips, shop if well stocked if you need any bits and bobs while you're there too.

I used to fish it, only don't anymore as I've not been carp fishing at all in 3 years.

Lovely little lake, good tackle shop on site. They'll give you advice. I always used to do well on the longer bank casting as far right as i could.

It's at the back of the complex so won't be too busy there at all.

Squid and Orange always worked well there and for the catfish.

Be worth looking on the Cefn Mably Facebook page as some new rules recently

Squid and orange isn't a combo I've tried before! I usually stick to either fishy or fruity not usually a mix so I'll have to give them a blast.
