Very late to these I know,but I think they may help me. What I wanted to know was does the link between lead clip etc and the COG plug need to be constructed of lead core? Bought some Kirda links of the right size to use as size guides for spares if needed. Happy splicing LC, but wondered if it would be easier to use a heavy coated braid etc and simply knot it where needed?

you can make them out of anything. Crimped hybrid stiff works well, stiff nylon, anything. Much cheaper to make your own as well.

Easy enough to make your own from leadcore if you've got good eyes and a decent fine splicing needle - just make sure you make a note of the entry point dimension from the cut end of leadcore to ensure consistent lengths. Bought a bulk load of rubber bung inserts online - dirt cheap compared to the packaged Korda kit
