Hi all,

Looking for some advice from Sonik Insurgent rod owners.

I'm currently using 10fts in 3.5tc and struggling to hit distances beyond 80 yards with a 4oz lead, same story with the dedicated 10ft spod rod.

I suspect it's mostly down to my technique, but just wanted to gauge the capability of these rods. What sort of distance should I be able to hit (rod & spod) and any recommendations on lead size?

How do you fare with a lighter weight? Different rods, but I find it easier to cast a lighter weight with my 3lb scopes - with 2.5oz feeling the nicest to cast distance with.

I can do just under 90 yards with a 3oz lead and 3bait stringer with my 3.5 insurgents
There is a video on you tube of one of the domik guys doing 140 yds with a 3.5 extractor using a lead only 👍

The 10ft rod will to some extent inhibit the casting distance, usually most people recommend a lead weight to match the test curve of the rod - example a 3.5oz lead for a 3.5lb test curve rod. 80yds with a baited rig with that rod sounds fair for the average caster.

I imagine a 3.5lb TC 10ft rod is quite stiff, try dropping down a lead size and changing technique to move the rod faster through the cast.
If you need greater distance easier and more consistently, I would suggest changing rods

I'd go the other way and go with a heavier lead. 4oz for 3.5lb rod

Try both mate. See what fits.
