In the market for a half decent camera and tripod setup for self takes. Ideally want something that can be programmed to take a pic every 5 or 10 seconds with an autofocus...if such a thing exists?

Dont really know, up to £400-500 very max I guess, it will only be a fishing camera. A flip screen (so I can see whats going on) would also be handy

I've got a Sony a5100 which has all you want, set timer at 10 seconds gives plenty of time to pose with fish. Still using a Gerry recommended tripod that was dirt cheap.

Thanks mate, appreciate it. Can the camera take pics repeatedly every few seconds or do you have to reset it between shots? I recently saw Greg Ellis video where he was doing self takes and the camera he was using was rattling off shot continually which seems like a great feature. Appreciate it was probably a pricey bit of kit though

You could just use it in video I think and take pics from that. I've got a cable release run under the matt so I just use that with it set to 10 seconds.

Any of the Nikon d5000 series would suit this mate. All have flip screen and a built in intervalometer which does as you describe... set it to take 50 shots at 6 second intervals for example and it will rattle them off without you having to do anything. I'd look for a second hand d5300 or d5500 and spend the remaining budget on a 35mm f1.8 prime.

That was one I looked at when I bought the Sony, only chose the Sony as its a little smaller and fitted in my jacket pocket. Daft reasoning maybe but I wanted pocket size when away walking around towns and city's.

This may be of interest.
I use a Panasonic lumix G6 . Paired with a 20mm 1.7
Panasonic pancake lens. Whole lot fits in the palm.
It's MU43 So 20mm is a good angling focal length
I use a short bankstick with a gardner adaptor to screw into the camera.
It has a flip screen. And a Time-lapse setting. So I do 200 shots
At 3 seconds apart. And hit the button usually once its I the weigh sling, weighed.
It then shoots for ages, so lots of 'action' shots.
Can get a used G6 for 100 quid. Not sure if all newer ones have the time-lapse. The lens 2nd hand for 150. Or new 240 I think.

That looks a very compact set up, i guess the pancake lens is not much use for much else but takes a pretty good wide angle for trophy shots.

Hi. It's 40mm FF equivalent . So not too wide.
It's a great discreet lens , very sharp and fast so you can crop
Plenty. I've taken it to festivals and parades and got some great candid photos with it. Personally prefer a prime to a zoom
