I am looking at 2nd hand rods and would be interested to hear from anyone who owns the esp mk3 classic 12'9x3.25.
Im not interested in an out and out casting tool but would like to be able to hit 120ish yards.
I know there are lots of variables there but would it be reasonable to expect to fish at that range with this rod if required with 15lb line and a decent size spool.
I hear lots of good things about them and i know they do a distance version but i think i would prefer the softer playing action of the classic.
Any opinions from people who have used them are welcome.

Yes it would, used them with ultegra ci4 5500 's and 15lb syncro xt, now use the 12ft 3lbtc 40mm ring set model with the same reels and 20lb bullet on a very weedy water. There's a set of 3 of the mk3 12ft9in ones new unused on tackle trader for £450.

Thanks for that. What sort of range do you feel you can comfortably fish at with the 12'x3s.

With 12lb xt 110 but that's not what I use them for as I have 13ft rods for range fishing. Currently have 20lb line on the 5500 for using on a very weedy water at short range. A friend has the new 12ft 3.5tc and personally I think they are nicer rods than the 12ft9inch 3.5tc distance model.

Most of my fishing is under 80yds. Just a couple of swims i need the range,hence a softer rod being my preference but one that can hit 110 -120 if needed.
Then there is 12' or 12,9, not sure how much difference there is in using the longer rod.Not sure how much you can really tell from messing around in a tackle shop.
If the 12,9 x3.25 can do 120 Then i think that will do for me as there are some well priced 2nd hand rods about.

I have a set of these rods (esp classics 12.9) which i use occasionally, my main rods are 13ft hi sives as most of my fishing is 100-130 yds.
Personally i doubt anyone can cast 120 with the esp classics with 15lb line unless they are an exceptional caster.
They are not build for that sought of range.
Lovely fish playing rods id say suitable for margins to 100yds. If you want to fish comfortably at 110-120 id look for some thing a little faster in the blank. They do a long range version of the same rod but never used one so cant comment on its casting.
A torrix 12.6 te is an ideal rod for what you want. I had these for 8 years and fished comfortably at 110-120 but they are also good for shorter ranges.

Strange that our opinions are different considering our choice of rods has been near identical. When I had the 12ft 9inch classics I also briefly had the distance model as well but never really liked it. Friends were also using 12ft 6inch torrix te's and I've cast both on a tournament court. The 12ft 9inch hearn is capable of fishing at 120 but that's prity much its limit with a baited rog while the te can comfortably do 10% more. As you know I also have the 13ft hi's ive's in the johnson Ross distance builds but wouldn't recommend them unless fishing regularly at 100+ as they are capable of considerably more but cost more than double, hence why I use hearns for short to mid range.

For the money paid well worth a go.
As i say 90% of the time im fishing under 80 yds but it will be interesting to see how they fare when i need to go that bit further.

If you don't get on with them I'm sure you'd sell them on for what you paid. I'm using my 12ft ones now and there are two others fishing here one of them using the 12ft 9inch classics.
