Require an expert inspection/report that can be used in the likely event of a court case.

£31,000 of fitted furniture that i wouldn't give 31p for but considering I'm not an expert in this field my views would carry no weight.

Thanks in advance.

Desperate.

Bedroom, living room, downstairs back room, walk-in wardrobe. All in the same material (should have been anyway but there is several shades of white throughout ).

Cheers mate.

Trading standards isn't an option as I really feel that a report is the only way forward as I've an awful feeling that I'm going to be stitched up by the contract administrator. Long story as you know but really do need a report for my own piece of mind and a knowledge of not accepting any old 5hite that may end up our way,

I'll try keep a long story, short.

Total furniture cost throughout the house just under £30K.

Fitted poorly.
Differing shades of white throughout.
Requested white gloss finish.
Only white gloss finish is the curved double doors to the bedroom dressing table which is not only a different look but is also a superior difference in quality to the rest.
Not fitted in accordance with the plan.
Not flush thus creating a safety hazard where nails can get caught and broken.
Differing gaps from the floor to the base of the furniture where feet can become trapped and toes get broken (this is also not in accordance with the design).
Joint lines not in line.
Damage to furniture.

The contract administrator who is overseeing the project of all other work to around my daughters house states that whilst he is in agreement that it is not fitted correctly he also stated that despite these issues there is £8K worth of furniture and therefore he would expect that to have to be paid.

The C.A also states that if we were to have an arbitrator in then in his opinion the arbitrator would only echo what he himself is saying. Obviously this would also have his or her costs added on which is obviously something we want to avoid.

My argument is that what use is £8K worth of furniture to us considering that in places throughout it is as mentioned above and remains a safety issue.

Edit. If I could get a report done on it all and say costs £2K (there are folk in this line of work who are also involved in arbitration) and if they are of the opinion that nothing should be paid then that could well turn out to be a saving of £6K. If anyone knows of anyone and could recommend then that be a great starting point.

Certainly not in this respect mate. 12 years of fighting justice for my daughter (successfully thank goodness) followed by 5 years of two lots of cowboy builders and now in a legal wrangle. Other than that life ain't too bad....

There's a play by a German playwright called Brecht called 'the good woman of szechuan ' ( bear with me, there's a relevant point coming).
She's getting ripped for price by a carpenter who has made fitted cabinets for her shop.
She then offers him a much lower price to which he says no. She responds by saying to take them all away then to which he says 'but they're of no use to me as they're built to fit your shop' . She stats firm and eventually he accepts the discounted price.

So... the point?

Maybe tell them that you don't want any of it. They can come and get their craply fitted furniture and you can call it quits with no fee.

Maybe they can recoup the 8 grand in somebody else's house and you can find someone less of a cowboy

I really wish that it was that simple. I'm leaning towards a chap by the name of Adrian Barrett to carry out an inspection of the whole house as he is an expert witness in fitted furniture, decoration (which is a total 5h1t show too in my daughters house) and structural as there is a gaping channel that has opened up in my daughters floor too.

The contract administrator who is overseeing this 5h1t show of a project at my daughters house I get the impression that he is in bed with the building contractors and will stitch us up over final monies that are to be paid to them and is why it is vitally important seeking out an inspection to be carried out thus to hopefully avoid huge fees having to be paid to these cowboys and in the long run could be cost effective to pay 2 or 3 grand to Mr Barrett.

I will give you another example. The contract administrator states that the aim will be not to pay for any decorating carried out inside the property (it's that bad) when he meets with the builders and then in the next breath states but in reality a good decorator will put everything right in a few days (my opinion is impossible as all requires stripping off throughout the property). If that isn't going from one extreme to the other then not only do I not know what is but I suspect that he would settle for it being corrected and thus in the process fcuking us over. Let's not forget that this contract administrator and the building company have worked together on previous contracts and no doubt if all goes smooth in fcuking us over then no doubt more work together will inevitably come their way.

35 years of experience and this CA goes from one extreme to the other. Insists that there remains £8K worth of furniture in the house ( I suspect he would be really happy for the building company to be paid this money from us) to keep them onside despite it been of no use to my daughter for reasons previously explained.

In the words of the CA that the advice he is giving that should it go to arbitration ( would then obviously incur extra costs) that the arbitrator would not go against the advice he is giving to us. In short I not only smell a rat but also have a gut instinct that he's scaremongering us.

I'll give another example of this contract administrator that is overseeing the project.

He states that he has spoken to two furniture companies to ask them if coving and skirting board can be removed during the installation of fitted furniture of which he replied that they told him that they can. I doubt that he asked them that can they be removed in both the manner and magnitude that they did of which around £4,000 of damages and repair costs are now concealed behind. My daughter has previously paid for all coving, skirting boards and decorating works to these builders of which is now concealed. Furniture in time becomes both tired and dated and you may choose to replace it or just simply take it out. One thing is for sure is that you shouldn't feel under pressure to keep it in because of all the damages hidden behind. They ripped off skirting board (underfloor heating will now cause the wallpaper to lift away from the wall as the heat rises. The skirting board that they left on due to ripping the back wall skirting piece off (with wallpaper still attached to it I might add) has come away from the wall. As for coving this wasn't profiled around either and has been butchered to the extent that it is reminiscent of being cut with an hammer. I got to notice this level of sabotage because one night they had left the property unlocked and in all it's glory was the damage they had done of which I have photos as evidence. It's an absolute 5h1t show but thankfully my mum and dad must have been looking down on us as i managed to gain entrance that night. Also quite why a CA of 35 years experience has to contact furniture companies to ask that question really does beggar belief of which I find strange. I myself have spoken to furniture companies who say that they would not take coving or skirting board off (unless absolutely necessary and even then they would consult the owner) as they profile around. These cowboys haven't even scribed to the walls of which in places there is a minimum of 5mm and a maximum of 10mm wide sealant throughout and looks disgusting.

Absolutely sickening of which I'll try fighting to end in an attempt to ensure that my daughter is not stitched up.
Are you sure?
