I fish this rig in similar situations and use ESP Synchro semi-stiff. I am sure most coated semi-stiff braids will do the job you require

Never having used jelly wire, what is the coating like, I was thinking a coated braid, but hoping I could get one where the coating didn't crack at the knot.

I can only speak for the atomic version of jelly wire and it doesn't crack at the knots. I use it almost exclusively for my boom sections with pop up rigs but I prefer the stiffer amnesia for my combi rigs.

Cheap as chips -Amnesia 20lb. Soft enough to settle but stiff enough to kick out.
