Drill out all the little dimples, remove the spring and replace it with washers or some sort of spacer which doesn't compress, glue back together.

I did my old emblem Xa reels, drag went from 4 turns to 1.5, so still enough adjustment.
I used the tip of a soldering iron to heat the little recessed dimples under the spool cap, then the centre part could be removed.
I found some hard plastic tube the same width as the spring, I cut to a mm or two smaller than the length of the spring.
Dry fit and test that you are happy with the drag.
Then disassemble, use a thin smear of epoxy to reassemble.
