Hey all

Going for a weekend on The Horns Dam and would love to know any tips or advice.

Any specific peg that you like to reserve?
Any baits to avoid?
Any specific rig works best?


I usually like fishing solid PVA bags as I don't yet own spod gear but open to any rig if it calls for it.

Its been a fair few years since i fished there. The peg in front of the house used to be good, but i suspect you can catch from any with a stock like that place used to have.

You don't have to fish at range and can catapult bait in. Id suggest 18mm boilies as from memory it had a fair few silvers in it (especially bream) and they didnt

Heading up this weekend to book on, I called and they only allow people they have met and you need to register with them now and show your rod license first

Booked on for end of the month, will update on results when I get back 👍👍

Great weekend, great weather and caught total of 19x carp.

Didn't have any issues with the bream on anything above 15mm baits.

Quickly learned that the margins are key at night and it's very silty out in the open water.

Also found that solid bags just attracted the smaller fish and the area was cleared in seconds leaving my single hookbait, so quickly switched to singles on both rods.

Best catch was 18.6lb Mirror on a 12mm Cell Balanced Wafter dipped in Cell Glug and a small handful of scopex boilies over the top.

Had more bites at night than during the day so spent the day napping in the sun ☀️

Would definitely go back 👍

Make sure you visit in person first, the lady can be a little difficult to get along with but she's innocent.

She only lets people she has met to book on overnight but the pro is you can reserve any peg in advance for free and she tends to also reserve the pegs either side of you if they are close to avoid other daytime anglers getting too close.

used to be a pasty beginner type water with tip anglers casting in your swim

Had no issues for my 4 days and never have an issue telling other anglers where my lines are in a friendly way.
