I have an old Panasonic Lumix DMC-G6 that I use for self takes. I have always just used the Lumix 12-32 kit lens and guessed approx 35mm (allowing for the frame conversion).
Can anyone recommend decent 35mm and 50mm fixed lenses that will fit this body?

Hi mate. I have the lumix g6
The two small primes I have are the
Panny 20mm pancake
And the Olympus 45mm
The Oly.is.lovely but not great for self takes as you need a lot of room
The 20 is perfect. I guess it's 35mm on a full frame. Nice and compact too.

Awesome, thank you so much for your help. I am often in tight swims so the Panasonic sounds like a better option. I'll check out eBay!

If you want the full frame equivalent of a 35mm and 50mm, then you will have to halve the figures as Micro Four Thirds has a 2 x crop factor.
The Olympus 17mm and 25mm f/1.8 lenses would serve you well. I don't know the quality of the Panasonic lenses as i've not used them but their 25mm f/1.7 is cheaper than the Oly version.

To be honest I'm not looking to win any awards, just a decent enough lens that I can stick on and forget about.

Yes. That Panny 25 looks good.
Didn't exist when I was buying mine and I'm the sort that
Doesn't upgrade untill forced so I stopped looking.
The only advantage of the 20 is that it's flat profile but you pay for that. However that's pretty much irrelevant on the g6 as the grip sticks out further anyway.

Duggs on here has good experience of this.
To be honest mate after so long using the kit lens
1. You will be skilled
2. You will be effin amazed by a short prime.
And it's not like fishing where better kit doesn't help
A poor angler. A good prime can make anyone's photos pop
You just need the basics of shooting mode , aperture, depth of field etc.
IF you are using auto or IA I would stick to Panny lenses
But having said that my OLY 45mm is so sharp
And so fast it's hard to fek up a shot. As I say not really for self takes when angling because you need a lot of space.

I'm definitely more of an IA guy! Nearly all my fishing is a night after work, if I'm lucky enough to catch one it's usually dark so I'm happy to let the camera do its thing and if it comes out half decent I'm happy. They are just for the memories.

Ah. When I use a flash I can't say the primes make any difference make much difference to the zooms. But that may be lack of knowledge?

Yea, probably a terrible way of doing it but the photos are only really for me to keep for myself. Most are still on the camera!

It's not that it's terrible. But you may have saved yourself disappointment and a lot of.money.
I have some third party external.flash. it was about 50.quid.
Changed my night shots.

As far as kit lenses go, the one you have is very good. For fishing I prefer a zoom, and I'm quite glad about this when looking back through shots as it creates more variety.
But if you want a prime I'd suggest the 25 f1.7
I have and love the 17mm 1.8, it's tiny and has a unique look to the images, but I doubt it's much sharper than what you have, and the snap back manual focus ring WILL ruin some shots, probably in the middle of the night when it gets flicked on without realising.
The 45mm 1.8 is fairly cheap, very sharp, but a bit long. Not unusable tho, and the best option if blurry backgrounds mean the world to you. Since it'll be about 3m from the mat I'd suggest an intervalometer with an extension cord or even a remote shutter button.
A fair bit bigger than those three is the sigma 30mm f1. 4. It'll balance well with the body, bitingly sharp and will blow backgrounds out nearly as well as the 45 while being a step or two closer

As for flashes I have a nissin i40 that is surplus to requirements, I'm not sure if the g6 has remote flash functionality but I can control it from my olympus cameras. Off camera flash is a game changer imo.
Tbh tho, a camera mounted flash isn't a big improvement over the pop up at night, it makes a bigger difference in bright sunlight
