Hello, I would like to make colored wafters from a pop-up mix, how could I make the pop-up mix heavier? I thought I could add boilie mix, but this will change the color and I don't want that.

thank you !

I cant think of any way to make a wafter from a coloured pop up mix that wont in some way change the colour. I add fishmeals to mine as it at least is adding something thats actually attractive. You could add mazie/soya/semo etc but they will all cause a colour change as theres simply less pop up mix and therefore less dye in the finished bait. If your pop up mix is from a supplier that also sells a matching dye then I guess with a bit of trial and error you could probably get it quite close to the undiluted pop up mix.

Hi, add something naturally dense and light coloured like semolina, possibly with a touch of titanium dioxide if it goes a bit yellow.

Generally speaking, I'd simply go generous with some powdered additives such as betaine, DMPT, honey powder,,milk b etc and add a teaspoon extra egg albumen per egg, then just use a shot underneath the pop up on the hair. FST easier than mucking about with ratios and less expensive as well

Thank you all for your intervention.

Mozzi you have opened an interesting topic. I propose the following question. Do we dip or rehydrate the wafters/pops after boiling? What additives do you trust when “rolling” these hook baits?

Over the years I have a few preferences, certain flavor blends with liquids and attractants that I find work, but I want to hear your opinions.

Christ, thats a massively broad question

The simple answer is load your pop ups with butyirc Acid, citric acid, garlic EO, fructose, milk b and betaine at nice high levels and be done with it and ever socialisng with people who can smell again.

I'd actually advise searching the key words of additives you're interested in, via this sight and also some of the bait groups on facebook, the groups have a higher number of people that actually know what they're talking about, a lot of whom routinely make their own bait.

If we're talking about what additives I find useful in a bright coloured wafter, then with me, the theme you will get, is me going towards the legitimate real food signals route. Im not one for random chemical blends I prefer to tinker about myself.

Say for example you use an ester based pineapple, I much prefer to put together a propriatery mixture using the neat esters, sweeteners, oleoresins ,trace elements, oils and absolutes etc so I can be confident when tinkering just what is happening in the bait, and how it effects what else is in the mix.

So me going out and buying the same flavours as you, just doesn't happen, I'd wager Frenzy ( worked with flavour companies in the past ), Keeperboy ( runs a company that sells hookbaits exactly of this nature ) or Blankasauraus Rex, who also sells a bit, are going to be more informed about the long term effects of modern flavours.

Infact I have 6 in my unit, 2 I'll never use, 1 isn't a flavour as we know it, and the other 3 are technically food additives in their own right.

business wise;
I use a premix I make up myself, of solubles, organic acids ( which I've harped on about LONG before a certain facebook post before Frothey tries to accuse me of copy and paste, 12 years to be precise ) sugars, free form amino acids, salts and a few bits I wont speak openly about as its my livelihood, however several of the ingredients are exposed to certain temperatures for certain time periods, some are changed on a molecular level as Im lucky enough ot know the right people.

I use this at an undisclosed level in all hookbaits

Are you sure?
