Weird question for the bait boat buffs as this isn't directly linked to fishing. I have a few ponds through work that I need to measure the silt depth in them. I can't send people out in boats or waders to prod around so wondered what sort of result I could get with a decent quality echo sounder attached to a bait boat? The ponds need to be maintained so we need to be able to check silt levels every year, then once capacity is potentially reduced we'll have them cleared.

I've never used an echo myself but have seen that even the ‘deeper' seems to give some indication.

Money is not an issue as costs will ultimately be recouped over a few years if it works, so if anyone has much knowledge id appreciate some feedback. I did look at the super posh RT4 which looks like it would also provide a 3d map etc, which is ideal but the main purpose has to be able to gauge depths of silt over harder ground.
