Evening all,looking to get bak to carp fishing,just after peoples thoughts or recommendations.I have got a shimano ultegra 5500xtd reel ,which size rod would people prefer to use with this reel ?There seems to be a lot using 10 ft rods ?I use to use Sonik Sk4 's 12 ft. with Shimano long cast reels(medium)All replies appreciated.Glad to be back

Tbh you won't go far wrong with any rod that you fancy. 9ft, 10ft and 12ft options will all do the job and pair well with that reel. I have sets of 9ft and 12ft rods, and 90% of the time I use the 9fts just as they do pretty much anything a 12ft rod would do but they're much easier to store and transport - they'll go sideways into the boot of a small hatchback (10fts won't). Will only be when casting at long distances (120yards+) that a 12ft will make the difference, but not really any downsides to having a longer rod if you're not concerned about the pack down size.
Depends entirely really on what you plan to do with them and how much space you have to store and transport them, but there are no wrong choices imo.

I find 5500 size reels too big for anyhting under 12ft personally ..... Okuma Inc 6000 are a nicer size on 10ft and smaller imo

The Okuma 6000 inc has a smaller spool than a Shimmy 5500.
I've sold 5 Shimanos and replaced them with the Okumas.

ive had Shimno XTBs and XTCs and i think the Okuma are a nicer reel (i have 6 of them)

I see the 5500xtd has been reduced at Total Fishing Tackle,could be as the xtd is being discontinued
