I know certain items are only worth what someone else is prepared to pay,like Solar stuff,for example..but even I was shocked at the cost of a Mitchell 300 Pro from back in the day..£250..

People pay silly money for items they don't need because the forums tell them they are sought after.
Solar (fill in the blank) from the 90's being a prime example.
On the flip side, you can pick up some absolute bargains. A few years back an old online/eBay retailers was getting rid of excess stock. I think I paid 50 quid for 6 x MK2 Fox Euro Swingers, 5 x ESP PVA funnel web kits and 5 x ESP marker float kits

Didn't read your post properly, considering you already mentioned Solar
For some reason, battered old optonics sell for nearly as much as MK1 TXI's, yet Micron M's sell for less than Daiwa Sensitrons

There is old school tackle for using, and old school tackle for putting in a display cabinet.
I dont see the point of display cabinets. I have some old stuff but its for fishing with.

Absolutely, I'm definitely in the user camp,for me I have to be able to use it,to warrant owing it..
I been after a 12ft Hardy Matchmaker,in good condition,I know three people who own them,only one uses it .same for FJ,Trotters...
Retro carp gear ,is another hobby entirely for some,again ,it should be used .I seen pics of a Parsons alarms collection,it's basically never going to be used...lots of them..!

I have a 9 foot Bruce walker spinning/ledger rod I need to sort out I'm sure that will be worth a few quid

A lot of people use those as a stalking rod..Nice rods the Old Hardys..
The only thing about that era I don't like is sliding reel rings or fittings,finding a unmarked Mitchell from that era,due to those reel fittings is hard,although it doesn't bother me,as the reel would have provenance..

I have 4 Michell 300's from my "carping" days in the 60's. But, I would never part with them and occasionally still use them for trotting in the river or tench fishing.

I use my Mitchell's regularly, I just serviced them and fitted new red fibre washers on the spools ,makes a massive difference especially if you follow Wallace Carneys guide to putting them on in the correct sequence..

I've set mine up to use like a front drag on a more newer reel,very smooth ..
