wondering if anybody has any experience with this exact spec blank and can advise action / taper at all?
Have used 12' 3.5lb Fatboy Slims for years and more recently used 12'9 3.25lb ESP TH mk3's.. my line of thinking being that i'd hope the Ballista has a bit more backbone than both the FBS & TH rods?
Given how old my FBS are now its probably an unfair comparison haha!
any advice greatly appreciated

Hi I have a pair of 25 year old Harrison 13' 3.5 lb balisters and to this day are great rods having purchase a set of 3.25lb 12 foot Torrix which I do tend to use as my main rods and the balisters as my marker and spomb rod. Having said that I've also fished with them lots and the chuck a lead or PVA a decent way (115 yards with a PVA bag), further than my Torrix can reach.
The blank is rather thick though (mind they are 25 years old) the blank is a semi fast taper and you will notice the difference between bream tench and carp.
A little heavy again that's probably down to age, and I'd guess the newer blanks would be better.
Probably not much use to you other than they have stood the test of time.

i had some 12foot 6 ballistas in the 90's and they were ok. not sure why you would want to buy 25 yra old technology in 2022.

the 12'6 has been discontinued, so no need to wreck your brain about it. 12' and 13' still available

I had a pair of these that I regretfully sold.
Lovely rods, but I wouldn't say they are distance rods. They're quite soft in the tip and more of a mid action
I now use the mk3 Terry hearns you mention and can definitely cast further with those.
