I would appreciate peoples opinions on which are the best big pit reels out there.

In my personal opinion here and everyone has one, my all time two favourites will always be the Shimano 10000 XSB mag and its bigger cousin the 12000 XTB mag - certainly the best quality reels I've ever used and mine are keepers for life.
If I could have kept my 12000 XTA's I would have done but parts for those were like finding rocking horse ****.
I dont like the look of the newer shimmies but that's asthestic's only I haven't tried them.

Everyone will have their own opinion. There is no such thing as the ultimate best reel lol comes down to preference. I own daiwa basiairs which cost me best part of £3k. Love them they do everything i want and extremely light and balanced paired with my basiair rods but can tell you now the lesser £500 basia qdx reels i had prior worked just as well.

I've had a set of ISOs for years and if money was no object I'd still use them. There's absolutely nothing I dislike about them and can't see what I'd find that would be an improvement.
I have a set of original ISOs had to have them serviced before I fell for them they are a nice reel. I also have a set of Daiwa 6000k Tourneys which I've had for longer and just can't bring myself to part with as they are in many ways better than my ISOs.
The new shimanos do look interesting however models seem to change yearly and spares become obsolete after several years which has always caused me concern.
