Hi all, been offered 2 greys original x-flite rods 2.75 TC in VGC for £140, just wondering if that was a good price.

I had 3 of the x flite plus' in 2 3/4 and they all snapped eventually. I'm not that heavy handed either. I did like them but they all snapped within about 2 months of each other, lifetime guarantee isn't worth the paper it's written on either, they offered me something like 10% off retail on a new set, worked out loads more than you could get them from in the shops.

Original Xflites are great rods, used a set of 12ft - 2.3/4lb for years in the noughties, used to get over 100 yards when needed, great to play fish on, still use one of them for my floater set up. Look a bit dated now but defo good rods..

X-Flites are generally floppy rods, i have 2 in 2.75tc and HAD 2 in 3.5tc.
Re the life time guarantee, blew up the top section of one of my 3.5tc on a cast, contacted them and spoke to a lovely old fella who i spoke to when i registered for the life time guarantee in 2007! He said "no problem, ill do you 2 new rods for the price of 1" A few months later i called to take up the offer and was informed the guy no longer works there and they wouldn't honour his offer.
I could have 1 rod at 50% discount if i cut the broken rod up into pieces and sent back to them, mentioned i want a matching pair like most carp anglers do, to which they replied i would either have to pay full price on the second rod or cut up the perfectly good rod and send back also to get the second rod at 50%!
Why would i cut up a perfectly good rod, mentioned i would happily buy 2 rods if they were both discounted (as per original agreement) and keep the good one so that i had 3 for when i went to france, but they wouldn't budge!
So yes the life time guarantee is not worth the paper it is written on!

I have had aset of 12ft6 3.5lb original x flites for 15 plus years. I have had other rods including top end Century's and have ended up going back to them and I continue to use them today. The Century's were good I was just was too paranoid using them as they cost so much. I have never had an x flite break and they just seem to go on and on. They are great to play fish on and haven't lost much of their test curve over time. I keeping looking at new rods, but then think why, what for as they do the job for me well. I will now only change them if I ever break one. If I had to value them I would still pay £100 a rod for them all day long.

Thanks for the reply lads, I've got the greys prodigy rods which I've had for years and done me proud here and in France, I'll have a think about it... I might just save a bit and treat myself to some new rods in the near future.

I've got 3 of the originals in 12'6 x 3lb test, well ones about 12'5 as an inch snapped off, the tip ring has been redone.

I promise I'm not here to slate greys rods. My old man had a set of the first prodigys and they all went white on all 3 tip sections.

if anyone has a 3.5tc they want to get rid of i'd happily take it of your hands for the right price!
