I'm going to replace the worm shafts in my 6000T for the Weston ones. I've stripped Tournies before, but never had to replace the worm shaft. What is the best way to remove the pawl that runs in the worm gear to get the shaft out? Looks like it's glued?

the pawls sit in a greased nylon tube ( oscilating pawl bush ) and just slide in and out once the slider cover is removed

an ' e ' clip tool will be handy to remove the e-clip that sits in front of the worm shaft gear

What's the best way to remove the slider cover to remove the nylon pawl tube? Seems like it's all filled in with resin?

Edit.... I know what's happened, the nylon bush has melted when I've applied heat to the thread lock to remove the main shaft. Hmmm

They do often use a glue for the screws which can make a bit of a crack (noise ) when they go - you could use a glue solvent/ dissolver of some sort but id rather not use any unneeded chemicals.

All ive ever used/ needed is wd-40 ( a squirt of that on the screws might help ) to clean everything and once dried off then the daiwa grease and oil

Sorted, just needed a bit of persuasion. Thanks for the help

They use screw lock, I used a 100watt soldering iron to loosen mine, prior to that I managed to damage the worm gear follower and had to replace it. For future reference.

I thought about that, but I'm f***ed if I can find my soldering iron. Used a flameproof lighter on the opposite side and it worked fine. A little bit of melt on the nylon But not so much I couldn't persuade the pawl out when I figured out what was what.

Also did the anti reverse gear from Weston at the same time.

Let us know how they are once you've had a play with them. I understand the line lay is better is the retrieve improve? Would you recommend it?

I did consider selling mine as I have a set of ISOs but can't bring myself to do it and think I'd regret it.

I've done mine and the line lay is amazing. Don't think the retrieve is much faster if at all. But certainly no worse!!

What do you think of the Weston anti reverse upgrade. Been contemplating getting them for my 5000's.

Probably not worth it, but as I had the reel in bits I thought I'd give it a go. A bit less play, but not like a newer reel with anti reverse.
