Quick question guys. I'm using toasted sesame oil in a birdfood this winter and trying to decide on inclusion level. The basemix is by design very low fat to give me the option of adding my own bulk lipid source and I'm thinking 20ml/kilo...too high or low??

Make test batches with different levels:
A) no oil
B) 10ml oil
C) 20ml oil
D) 50ml oil
Put from each 3 boilies in a glass of refrigerated water and put it back in the fridge. Check on regular times the water (visual and by taste, pH if this is an option) and you will find out which ones still have high leakage rates

That's a great idea and one that I will do tomorrow. In terms of digestion how much fat can they utilise in cold water?

Toasted sesame seed oil is really strong so you don't need much. 5ml per 6 egg mix.

Brings to mind the question is it being added for the taste or the calorific value as a lipid source? The answer may well affect the required quantities. Also is it the best oil for the purpose?

Maybe take some along as a glug too?
Little bit of extra attraction in the water ...

I really like it for taste as it compliments my mix perfectly and obviously has the added value of caloric value. I did consider mixing it with nut oil to increase lipid value while not increasing taste?
