I've made a nut bait (the lake I fish on responds well to nut based boilies)
Here's my recipe I've made, any changes?
500G tiger nut base mix
50G Brewers yeast
24G Broacel yeast
10G Vit24 (from fishing bait warehouse)
20G health boost (from fishing bait warehouse)
12.5G Egg albumen
2ml sweet ade (mainline)
2ml almond flavour (mainline)
2ml coconut flavour (aa baits)
10ml multi stim
10ml metamino
15ml cell activator
4 Eggs

I've rolled it and it rolled very well and made some perfect 16mm boilies no problem, quick question, how much cork dust for wafters and pop ups?

for pop ups generally a minimum of 20% for me if no other buoyancy aids are used, for wafters anything from 10% down to 4% depending on your favourite rigs / hook sizes etc.

It's difficult to advise on a ready made mix without knowing the components, some tiger nut bases are 10% tigernut the rest a 50-50 filler mix, other more complex with milks, birdfoods etc.

those factors determine the necessity of vitamin and health boosters. the more balanced a mix is the more likely these needs are already covered.

I've looked up the additives you mention and "health boost" seems to be mainly a mix of spices and mineral clay, and vit24 a multivitamin supplement?

One tip - Weigh your eggs for a vastly superior accuracy of measurement, so many measuring implements are inaccurate nowadays.

I personally prefer natural sugars such as monosacharides to artificial sweeteners so thats a change I would look at making potentially.

If we assume this tiger nut base you've bought is of reasonable quality, then my suggestion below is a simplified mix unreliant of artificial flavours to catch fish on the whole

DRY MIX
77.5% Tigernut Basemix
7.5% WPC80
5% Liver Powder
2.5% Fructose
2.5% Brewers Yeast
2.5% Fenugreek
2.5% Wheatgerm

Simply multiply in G for base mix construction, x 10 = a kilo and so on.

These measurements give a roughly 4 egg equivalent

200g whole liquid egg
20g Tigernut Extract
10g Molasses
5g Hemp Oil

Weigh the dry mix each time you add it, starting with say 400g and then 50g increments to find a nice repeatable ratio, it'll speed up the process for you each time.

When you make hookbaits, unless you freeze them I'd subtract 10% of the liquid egg and replace it with mono propylene glycol, and add 1g potassium sorbate per 1 egg hookbait mix ( quarter the quantities above ). small tubs of pot sorb are available from home brew websites and is listed as E202 in some places.

The mix above although basic, will catch absolute stacks of fish, the natural sugars, livers, and fenugreek will see to that. but don't be afraid to experiment! you can add whatever you want be that more spices, fish hydros, belechan works with everything as well, it's all part of discovering how ingredients work with each other.

You'll get conflicting advice on most subjects and recipes online but fundamentally understanding quantities, ratios and behaviours of individual ingredients comes from dirty hands and rod hours.

Best wishes

To be honest your mix seems to be over complicated. Are you using a shop brought nut base mix or a home made? If it is a shop brought mix then I'd question the need to be adding vitamin supplements, yeasts, and so forth. Surely the base mix should cover these requirements?

Shop bought mixes are made to a budget, adding liver, yeast, some spices etc will elevate it without the need to over complicate it.

I agree mixes SHOULD be sold with everything taken care of however the brief for most nut mixes is to like and smell like a nut mix lol

I checked on his profile for hints to the mix in question and found it, and although the advertising blurb says nutritional with milks, it can be had at 90 quid delivered for 25kg.

3.60 per kilo after the necessary profit and overheads are taken out doesn't leave an awful lot. profit will be about 70% on top of production cost I imagine, so circa 2 quid per kilo. you cant add meaningful quantities of decent milk at that level, even in big bulk milks don't become drastically cheaper anymore.

Thus I suspect its tiger nut, fillers, lamlac, bit of crushed hemp, nothing terrible but certainly something that can be built upon.

The base mix is from aa baits, do you think it's worth getting some form of milk to add to the base mix, and if so what milk and roughly how much?

I would give AA baits a call and ask them what they suggest. They will know the make up of the base mix and it's limitations vs price.

Generally I like the refines milk fractions such as caseins, caseinates and higher spec whey ingredients, but a decent whey protein and a bit of lamlac for sweetness wont steer you far wrong at all.
