Hi all
Is there a fish finder that can be used in a bait boat and a row boat? I rarely use a bait boat home or abroad but have a Technicat which i want to use on one winter water. I used to have a Waverunner with a Deeper which worked well but the 2.4ghz on the Technicat interferes with it. I want to be able to use the bait boat from land but also utilise the fish finder from a row boat abroad.

You can change the handset and receiver on the technicat to the SP tackle 2.4 GHZ AFHDS handset and receiver on the BaitBoat to stop the interference between the deeper and the boat look on SP tackle website

If u need it fitted look up BaitBoat solutions on Facebook if your on their joe can supply and fit them his in Brentwood Essex

Interesting I have a mk2 technicat and it works well with the deeper.

Really? I'll have to give it a good run out with it then. Always thought that they were interfered with using 2.4ghz. Thanks for the update👍.

Yes I tow mine behind the boat on a plastic velcro'd arm.
Mines connected to my iPad on a tripod- keeping it high helps.
What I notice is you have to keep your speed down also
If the boat is facing toward me I sometimes loose it a range though I use a WiFi repeater which helps with signal strength

It's not cheap. The boat has to be opened up for the install then you might thing hey autopilot would be nice as well.
Factor in the cost of a deeper might be better looking at a new boat.

Thanks for the help. If there is a reasonably priced alternative like Raymarine etc that does both with more reliable connectivity then i'd be happy to pay for it.

I'm not sure their really is I had a smart cast excellent range though maps produced were very basic
It's just when you start wanting to mod your own boat it soon can end up getting very expensive. Perhaps sell your boat and use the funds towards an an x-boat with Tolson or an RT with Raymarine
Just keep your deeper for your row boat.

You've got a few options O.P
Before you do anything, if you've got a mate who's got a Deeper, try that and see if the signal is being interferd with by your boat. If it works, tidy. Don't know how far you plan to use the sonar out to, from what Deeper say and users, it's around 100yds plus or minus. If you want to go farther, you'll need to boost the signal. Buy two VONETS VAP11S, (cheap as chips and as good as anything else) one in the boat and that'll give you 200yds plus, you can also get another one and have that on the bank and boost the receiving signal...been to 450 plus yards and still works great.
If the above doesn't work and the boats 2.4ghz is messing with a Deeper - have you got the room for a Raymarine Dragonfly? - I'd install a decent radio set that doesn't bleed over a Deeper. I couldn't say what radio set that might be, prolly a Spektrum set bought from eBay would do the trick, could just buy only the transmitter and receiver parts and just install all of that. 2.4ghz radio kit isn't that expensive to buy.
If you wanted to be fancy, you could strip the crap that's in your boat except the motors, install an Ardupilot system (not expensive) a decent radio set secondhand, servos for the doors etc (not big money), the VONETS VAP11S boosters, download Carp Pilot and you'll have an all singing and all dancing full auto pilot system.
Or....
You could just sod your boat off and get ND's bait boat 2 (not shilling) as I know that definitely works with both a Deeper and a Raymarine Dragonfly - the Dragonfly isn't removable, it's a permanent fixture. You'd need to buy an arm for the Deeper with ND's boat, though you could tow it along on a wire trace on the front I suppose.

Thanks Terry, that's very informative and helpful. My Deeper pro+ is quite old now so may be the unit. I used to tow it on a Waverunner that i made a flexible arm for form an old fish finder attachment and suction cup which worked perfectly. Not sure if the newer Deeper chirps are more compatible with the 2.4ghz? I'll certainly look at the options that you suggest especially to increase the range. I'm amazed that there isn't a removable/transferable unit that would do both by now though. Thanks again for your reply.

A good idea is to ask what people are using with the Technicat radio wise along side a Deeper. Might also be worth asking Deeper themselves what combo works well with your Deeper and their newer sonar's; could we'll save you a lot of brainache 🤯

Mines a deeper pro plus 2. I've towed a deeper pro plus also that was fine.
