Been away a few times, also know a lot of lads who have been, never heard of anyone having anything confiscated, the seem more concerned about UK stickers on your vehicle
Same, I went in September on the ferry pulled in the shed to be checked opened my van bait and food in full view nothing said other than oh your off fishing where you going but my mate was pulled in with his camper van he's just been to Maronis and on the way out through the tunnel the customs guy got him to open a few carryalls to check, he obviously spotted he was going fishing and asked him about bait first what and how much he had, he said he had 15kg of boilies and the customs guy said ah that's alright not going bother about that.
They got into a conversation about it as my mate is always curious and likes a chat so asked are they pulling anyone for boilies food etc... the customs guy said yes but only the ones taking the piss with it like 50kg plus they're filling skips weekly he then said I expect you have your food with you bacon eggs etc for the week which was a yes it's in the fridge, he opened it and looked and again he said it's only you so go on I'm not going to take it off you as you'll obviously be consuming it there's not loads in there.
Guess it's a case of who you get checking and what mood they're in.

They might start getting a bit more picky with us Brits with state relations deteriorating over channel fishing rights...!

I got pulled on both sides going in and out, never had that before! But in all fairness to everyone it was similar to before Brexit asking about drugs, guns etc. The van was loaded and they could clearly see the fridge but never even worried about opening it or asking what was inside. The guys at customs are genuinely sound people most of the time who will happily have a conversation about any questions if your courteous. Show them some respect and don't huff and puff about being pulled and they generally aren't going to be worried about some boilies you have for a week fishing trip or 20 rashers of bacon
. Just my experience

So English customs on the English side, going to France. But its not the English customs, allegedly, saying you cant take boilies, so why would they be filling skips with confiscated baits its allegedly the French saying you cant bring it but you can bring hookbaits because they`re classed as lures even though they`re made with the same ingredients. Allegedly some are saying you can bring 20kg as a limit. I`ve been across to France 6 times in the last 18 months with boilies in the same van, no problem, only hearing stories about what happened to their mate or they heard from someone else, go fishing people like you`ve always done.

We went through last week and there were no checks for boilies... We did however have the additional checks for firearms and 'did you pack the car yourself etc'
I had about 30kg with me
..... the HydraK was stinking the car out.....

The reality is that many food items are restricted, including boilies, so taking them is always a risk, albeit a small one as things stand. Some lads have been pulled and had food and bait taken by the French customs and also have been fined but so far that is a rarity. If you are pulled and declare all the items that are possibly banned then at the very worst you will have the goods confiscated however if you try and blag your way through the consequences could be far more severe. There is no doubt that so far the French customs have been very lenient in enforcing the issue but could, at a moments notice, start applying the law.
