Hi I missed a decent fish today fishing very tight to an island margin in front of me on a small lake (3.5acres). The delkim nitelite v2 dropped a bit but I didn't hit it and later realised I'd been done.. it swam to my feet and discharged the hook.. Which bite indicators are best for dropback indication? Any other tips in this situation? I'd just dumped a kilo of boilie using a bait boat so didn't want to be hitting liners!

Too many lads are fishing with bobbins that are far too light, use some swingers with at least half an ounce of counterweight.

I think any heavy-ish bobbin will register a drop-back bite, as Baitman says, too light a bobbin may not register it. I have some Cygnet bobbins with interchangeable heads, have 3 sets of heads (1) light heads for fishing slack lines/margin work (2) medium size heads for mid range/general use and (3) heavy heads for distance work/fishing up to islands/far margins.
For me the difficulty comes with sideways takes that don't always register on your alarm. It happened to me this year on a holiday venue, had one bleep with alarm on highest sensitivity, looked at the line off the rod tip and it was at about 90 degrees to where I cast it. Struck into the fish and it was over my other rod. Tip - make sure rod tips are out of the water and look at your line!!

Thanks for the replies, I think heavier is the way to go. I think I'll remove the arms so that the bobbins can actually fall to the floor. Regarding watching the line - I was using backleads so hard to see from the line what's going on exactly. I prefer using backleads generally as u don't get bleeps and don't spook them with the line. If I use a half ounce bobbin guessing I need a heavier backlead?

Heavier bobbins and as others have said will work but i find quiver type indicators very hard to beat for drop backs

There's a hell of a lot of variables to consider, basic ones are –
What's the topography of the lake bed like between the Rod tip and the rig? Is fitting back leads dragging 20-30- ft of line into Weed, Snags, Bars, Rocks etc............ And dampening all Line movement/ indication down to almost zero?
What ranges? Further = more tension on the line needed, Closer = less tension as a general rule of thumb.
Or just use Startle or Running Rigs, no matter what direction a fish takes you get forward movement at the Alarm.

It would help to get an idea of what range of movement is possible.
I like to have as much movement as possible. I don't get the current trend for really short movement like the stows.
