Morning all.
A quick question regarding sleeping bags, whilst being a snugpak fan boy and in he market for a new bag, my Solar c-tech one is not up to it, winter with snugpak mummy bag inside is a pain.
which of the 2 bags below should i go for?
Fortis/Snugpak or Gardner duvet? £250 v £125
I'm edging towards a Fortis but like the price of the Gardner

Fortis every day for me due to the fact that it can fold down inside my bed with both layers on, is super light and super warm...

I have the fortis bag and really like it,the zips are not proper crash zips on it.The gardner bag gets very good feedback but I did not like the material or the cheap zips on it,the main thing that made me go for the fortis was the weight at 3kg all in its definitely the warmest bag on the market for weight.I have mine on a solar sp c bed and it fits perfectly

Get a Trakker 365. Very, very warm, proper zip's and fit perfectly on a Solar bedchair.
I ditched the Gardner bag as it was really crap. Got sick of the crap zip's and it's not warm.

I've had both and kept the Fortis
I didn't like the material either on the gardner bag
The Fortis for me is perfect, lightweight, folds up in my bedchair and I've never been cold in mine
The zips do snag every now and then but I can live with that

Ive got the gardner bag and its a decent bag and very reasonably priced like all gardner gear. I would of rather bought the fortis but it wasnt wide enough for my wide sp bed. I like the extra width of the gardner bag but if they ever bring out a wide fortis bag i will buy one straight away but im more than happy to keep using my gardner one until then if it ever happens.

Fortis bag, but double that up with the Gardner cover for when it gets really cold. Job done 👍

Thanks all i used to use before the Solar bag a Snugpak special forces 2 mummy bag. But have now got used to the shape and comfort of a full bag Plus it stays on the bed
Fortis it is then with an Army Andy goretex cover to prevent welly wipe mud so will use that as well.
Its usually Snugpak all the way for me but was unsure of Fortis
but you have cleared that doubt up for me

You must feel the cold, i sleep in mine in a tee shirt in the winter. Never had an issue with the zips either. My priginal trakker pertex bag is still the best bag ive owned.

What's that the Gardner bag? The crap zip's are mentioned here on this thread on on this board and others I know who have them. One of my mates kept going on about how warm they were, that was until he used it. The liner is a poor design, much the same as the old army bags with the toggle system --> pony.
I'd say that just the Trakker without the inner is crazy warm. Prolly 10 degrees or less and it's just right.

Yes the gardner bag. I can only go from my findings and had no issues with the zips. My mate borrowed mine and bought one after using it and also no issues with the zip and he fishes wk in wk out. I agree the toggle system is a crap design but i dont use the inner even in winter its that warm so not an issue. The baffle thing they put at the top is crap as well as it dugs into you.You southern softies really feel the cold mind if your cold in it.

I used my Gardner compact carp bag for the last 3 night's on the third night the temp dropped and I had to toggle in the extra Layer. I was just sleeping in a t shirt. I did have trouble with the zip. The ribbon that is there to keep the zip from jamming is not sewn at the bottom and if you don't make sure it's in the correct position then the zip can and did jam until I sorted it out. The toggle in layer is not a great idea but I'm assuming it's done that way to keep the price down. A good bag but not great and if I was fishing in the depths of winter I suspect I would need something warmer.
In reply to no 12 I am 61 and not as 'ard as I used to be I feel the cold. Also I like to sleep with the zip undone and the bivvy door open. The Gardner compact bag does not have the width to allow an overlap to keep the draught out. I'm goingto buy a trakker 365 and hope it's better. I'll give the Gardner bag to my nephew. P.s. I don't like fleece lined sleeping bags as they i inhibit movement in the bag. Which is why I chose the Gardner bag in the first place.
