I'm thinking more and more about buying a property out in France. South/south west/south east. I'm wanting something that backs onto a river so I can fish from my back garden. Basically I have saved up enough to pay off my mortgage but I'm being more drawn to buying something I can just retreat to when I want.
Anyone have any experience of this? Where would I look? I'm not 100% on it still as I have a young family so I need to put them and our financial safety first but I would really like to see what's about and what you can get for your money. Any ideas?

not a good time to buy any property in France at the moment

its gone very very expensive and a sellers market rather than a buyers I have lots of friends in France one couple I know cant find a property and been tying for the last 6 months after they sold their house and the new one fell through they are living in their large camper van for the last 4 months what property's they have viewed are at least a 1/3rd more expensive than in in the past 8 months !

We have done the exact same thing and bought on the river Lot and never looked back. We now are French resident and enjoying life to the full. Don't hesitate as long as you find the right place you'll not regret it. PM me your phone number if you want and I will call you over the coming days.

buy this months French property for sale magazine, your local wh smiths will have it, some lovely properties for sale in there also good articles about buying in France now we are not in the eu. its cheaper in parts of France now to buy complete than extend a house in the uk. sign up to French property estate agents, I did and got emailed a 7 bed 4 bathroom house with 6 acres of land for 160.000 euros. bit big for me though

I'll have it! B&B beckons...

We bought a little cottage in the Limousin 10 yrs ago. It's supposed to be the cheapest area in France to buy. It's a lovely part of the world and the French people are very friendly and helpful if you try speaking the language.
There are so many lakes in that region and some lovely rivers such as the Vienne and the Gartempe.

Bills work out at €1200 a year. Try and get an bilingual estate agent
