Just wondering if anyone can give me a few pointers for fishing in silt . I'm regularly having fishing ‘fizzing' up on me in the silt but can't buy a bite , thanks .

If its clear of chod just fish to the fizzes. The fish are feeding strongly so a simple wafter or bottom bait rig should work. I would use a longer than usual hooklength. Are you sure it's fish not gas bubbles.

As post 2 says, are you sure it's not just the silt releasing gas? Dont mean to sound patronising so apologies if it came across that way.
Unless you're seeing fish show over you I wouldn't be over certain it is carp, it's amazing how much gas silt can give off.

Dave Lane swears by a long nylon hooklink in this scenario, he claims the hookbait will sink into the silt along with any free offerings and its his go to rig in silt

Thanks for the replies. Yeah , 100% certain they're carp . Tried in the silt , nearby on slightly firmer area but no joy . I'll give you suggestions a go , thanks 👍

Almost all of my fishing is over silt and a few things are quite clear to me.
Winter and early spring; pop-ups on whatever rig work well.
Mid-spring, summer and autumn; bottom baits fished in the silt catch way more fish.
Once those carp are up to their gills in the silt feeding the last thing you want to be doing is trying to stay out of the stuff.
Generally smaller baits seem to work best, probably because silt feeding fish are searching out small natural food items.
There will 100% be times when you won't get the fish to accept picking up anything other than what they're naturally feeding on.

Funny you should say that my local club lake is predominantly a clay bottom but round one side there is loads of trees making the margins there silty obv you must find the nice silt not the disgusting horrible stuff that even carp will avoid but having read an article I think it may have been Dave lane about just what you were saying carp up to their gills in silt searching for bloodworm will ignore anything above it took it to the club lake tried it and had immediate success
