So today I purchased a stalking set up, I bought a little Shimano Bait Runner reel and it instantly bought back memories of when I was younger using bait runners.
I was wondering if there's a general reason as to why front drag reels are more popular now a days opposed to Br's.
Casting abilities maybe or something just because it's not as "carpy"
I've had a few different front drag reels but now I'm liking the idea of potentially getting Br's for my main rods too.

I think it's because front drags are simpler, therefore lighter and the potential drag can be higher. Probably cheaper to make too. I prefer baitrunners myself but do use both. Depends what you prefer and best suits your needs. Balance on rods may also be a weight related factor.

Personally I find front drag a bit more intuitive to use. I used rear drag and baitrunners years ago.
