Hi, me and my mate only use a boat for one week a year, we have our own outboard motor, but the lake has just informed us they no longer can supply us with batteries. So we are going to purchase a new one but are not going to go the Lithium route as it is for only one week a year, so can anyone point me in the direction of the best value 12 v lead leisure battery please, TIA

I initially bought a 110ah battery but it weighed a ton and took a long time to recharge

and so I used it for my caravan and bought 2 x 75ah batteries lighter faster to charge up and one can stay on a solar panel charger
so in theory your never stuck something like this stick to something Lucas with at least a 3 year warrantee would be my choice

but never use motor on full power the difference it uses between 3/4 and full is amazing can mean another day

and so does an extra couple of mins or so travelling time putting the rods out make a difference to your fishing ?

I am guilty of it when I first started using my boat it was flat out to drop it flat out coming back every time I got in the boat it was flat out lol then a mate educated me and said Gerry just use a max of 3/4 power and you will get another day out of your battery I found that a bit hard to believe but thought well Im here for 2 weeks so I will humour him and see and golly gosh its absolutely right

It's also best not to discharge your batteries to a low level otherwise even good quality ones like Lucas or Yuasa will fail prematurely. As Gerry says use one and recharge the other.
Buy a multimeter/ voltmeter if you haven't got one and keep your battery voltage above 12.2 which is 50% charged, going below this will cause damage, recharge ASAP after use and they will last many years.

There are cheaper batteries out there and with luck and the above care they should still last you a long time but you would have less chance of a failure with quality ones.

I know you've said it's one week a year and you didn't want to go down the lithium route but to buy two of the Lucas Batteries in Gerry's link at that money for 75Ah batterys you might as well consider a lithium for extra £50 ish like the one TCarper posted in the other thread on Battery advice have a read of his post 9 & 17 says it all really and the advantages gained there is a link to his battery in post 9.

Lead acid are alright if you keep them maintained but forget to and they drop charge there as good as ****ed, my Lithium can sit for 3 months fully charged without a maintenance charge and barely drops below 90% the prices they are coming down to these days they are a worthwhile consideration, but I respect it is your choice.

Oh aye never spotted that didn't read the description that it was for two just saw the price and quantity 1 what a numpty I'am never mind as you were, I still prefer my lithium each to there own I guess.

Edit:just for comparison Dangerous Dave was selling the 100Ah batteries with charger three or four years ago when I bought one for £750 so prices are coming down another three years and I would imagine a fair drop in price again.
