Buy two cheap garden rake heads , cable tie them together back to back , and a length of nylon rope.

Problem with a big rake is throwing it accurately and far enough
Maybe the Gardner rake tied on with paracord
Would be lite and would throw further be surprised how much weed you can pull out with a Gardner dulux rake But I don't no what size you are asking for or how far or much weed you raking of course

I've got a 12 inch... Jakes weed rake that is, can chuck it about 25 yards max I'd say picks up a lot of weed as well...if you can weld you could probably make one yourself as someone said but I can't so would rather pay 35 quid delivered for a well made one.
Not made one for years, but back in my "Tenching" days, I would just wrap barbed wire around a short iron bar and attach a rope to the middle of it.
Ideally a short piece of heavy chain attached to the bar with a "Wire Rope Clamp" and and the rope attached to the chain was better as the chain would pull the rake down onto the bottom of the lake bed like an anchor and you could pull it back in short tugs and rip the weed out by the roots.

Iv just bought a Gardner multi rake . Iv also ordered 10m
of paracord to attach it too . I used my mates on the weekend just gone and found it really good

The throwing rake they do is excellent. Had one 4 years now, really well made.

If you go down the casting route, get a sea gripper lead, putting shrink tube on the wire and slightly longer incase of contact with a fish, then wrap and tie off leadcore around to hold in place. Then a 3ft less core leader attatched to braid to make stronger but also allowed you to lift it out without the braid (under the weight of weed) slicing your fingers
