Hi all, Ive fished Broom lake on the Shefford and district Ac book twice now and have not had much luck. For an apparent runs water I'm doing something wrong.
I'm fishing short morning sessions, as thats all I can fit in. Does anyone have any tips on location, baits etc?

Only ever done the odd day here and there and never caught off the bottom. A good portion of the fish come out at night.
I wouldn't call it an out and out runs water though. Good quality bottom baits up to the islands would be my tactic.

It's a real night water mate. It's not a runs water as such, but it's certainly not hard at all, it just can be quite specific for bite times. Dusk until around 3am is when I had 99% of the fish I had from there a couple of years back ,right through from spring until autumn, winter was more like midnight until 6 am . Don't fish too close to the islands , everyone does so drop a couple of rod lengths short. Bottom baits were the way to go too, only had 2 fish on popups despite always using them on one rod. Don't use pellets as there are tons of bream, a scattering of boilie only was the best method for me. Could usually guarantee at least one fish per night usually a couple and I think my best night was something like 11 fish . Big double baits doing the majority of my bites

Thanks to both of you.
It might not be the water for me then as my sessions usually go from 8-1pm due to time restrictions. Although Im sure I can crack Broom and get a few out during these times, I think I might check out Willington.

Not fished Wilmington for over 20 years now so can't give you much help on what it's like currently. Tbh your best bet at those times is probably the airman for a bite

I've actually been thinking of trying the airman. As you can probably tell, I'm new to Sheffords waters and don't really know the going tactics yet.

Airman can be hit and miss ,but it's probably your best bet of a morning to lunchtime bite

Airman will be a better bet, pegs by the car park. The cats do get big so go down the nut based boilie or nuts if you want to avoid them. The roach can be a pain, a 2lb roach is no fun on carp gear. I'll be up there Fri night into sat morning if you want a chat

Like many places during this lockdown venues have been a lot more busy, Shefford was full last season and they sold out again pretty quickly this season.
That said broom lake has always been very busy.
So there is a lot more pressure on the carp and it's probably why these days the fish don't feed till the lake is quieter

I used to have broom to myself quite often. And when it was busy it was only during the day with float anglers.

I'm liking the airman so far. There's a few people on today but it's a pretty venue. Lots of activity too which is a good sign.

No such thing as a "going bait" mate, on any water. That's a load of nonsense. You'll catch them on any decent quality bait
